LEGO ROBOTICS TEAM
|
The Center's LEGO Robotics Team "Bricktron"
in its first year of competition won the “Team Spirit” award at the
Lower Hudson FIRST LEGO League Tournament held at Pace University in
Pleasantville, NY on February 10th. “Bricktron”, is made up of nine students from the Rockland
County area and is coached by LEGO expert Lee Magpili. The Robotics Team formed
last summer and trained at the Challenger Center, sometimes up to three days
per week, in order to prepare for the tournament.
At the tournament, the team members had to compete with 19 other teams in three tense rounds of robotic challenges. Each team also had to be judged on the technical design of its robot, as well as make a research presentation relating to energy, this year’s theme for all FIRST LEGO League competitions. The team hopes to present their research project to both governmental and local company representatives in hopes of securing the necessary funding and materials in order to make their recommendation of solar panels become reality at the Challenger Center. The FIRST LEGO League is an alliance between the “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” (FIRST) organization and the LEGO Company. The international FIRST LEGO League introduces children around the world to the fun and experience of solving real-world problems by applying math, science, and technology. |
